Chandrababu Naidu to go on indefinite hunger strike to protest against Telangana

Telugu Desam Party ( TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that he will go an indefinite hunger strike in the national capital, as part of his party's protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

"I am going to Delhi on October 7.Will go on an indefinite fast against this decision on Telangana," Chandrababu Naidu said here today.

According to reports, Minister of State for Railways, K.S. Reddy, became the third union minister to resign in protest against Telangana since the Cabinet's announcement for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier today, Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister M.M. Pallam Raju resigned from the Council of Ministers protesting the Union Cabinet's nod to the creation of a separate Telangana state.

According to reports, an upset Chiranjeevi, who hails from Coastal Andhra, faxed his resignation to the Prime Minister's Office ( PMO) last night.

Earlier, Naidu had met with President Pranab Mukherjee and Opposition party leaders to press for keeping Andhra Pradesh united.

On October 3, the Union Cabinet approved the creation of a new state of Telangana by bifurcating the existing state of Andhra Pradesh.

The city of Hyderabad will function as the common capital for both states for a period of ten years. The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of a Group of Ministers (GoM) to work out the various legal and administrative measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents of all the regions of the State including the guarantee of fundamental rights.

The Union Cabinet further approved that the GoM will go into the various issues which concern both the States and suggest appropriate measures to address them.

The GoM will also work out the modalities for the provision of special financial disbursements required for the setting up of a new capital for the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh and to meet the special needs of the backward regions and districts of the two States.
