The father of former England football captain John Terry had reportedly been charged with racially aggravated assault following a scuffle in a London street.

59-year-old Ted Terry was arrested along with two other men following the fracas at around 8pm on March 22 in Fenchurch Street in London, and the trio were formally charged with causing racially aggravated fear of violence and assault, the Mirror reports.

The report further said that the trio is due to appear in court on July 23.

According to the report, the allegations against Terry come a year after his son was cleared of charges of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, brother of Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, although the Chelsea defender denied making racist remarks to Ferdinand.

However, the report added, Terry was handed a four-month ban, and he was slammed for failing to apologise personally to Ferdinand, adding that Chelsea was also criticised for failing to strip Terry of the captaincy.

In January 2002 Terry, along with two other players, was charged with causing disturbance after a row with a nightclub bouncer, although later he was cleared of the charges, the report added.
