Chhattisgarh to impose liquor ban in village with population more than 3,000: CM Raman Singh

Following the footsteps of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday announced that prohibition of alcohol would be imposed in the state.

"I had very good conversation with Nitish Kumar in Munger and have decided to impose a liquor ban in villages with a population of 3,000 and more," Singh told the media here.

Singh also said that his Government is taking measures to make the state digital and will ensure that around 10,000 Panchayat in the state gets proper Wi-Fi connectivity till the end of 2018.

"Every Panchayat will get a proper Wi-Fi connectivity in the state. Till 2017, 2,000 Panchayats and in December 2018, 6,000 Panchayats, all together 10,000 Panchayats will get proper Wi-Fi connectivity till 2018," he said.

He also informed the Centre has approved around projects worth Rs. 2,500 crore to improve the roadways and the Highways of the state.

"Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved projects worth Rs. 2,500 crore, in which around 18 cities will get better inter-state roads. Rs. 690 crore have been sanctioned for it," he said.

Earlier in the day, after meeting Nitish Kumar in Patna, Bihar, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister announced to impose liquor ban in the state.

Singh was on a two-day personal visit to Bihar and had gone to Munger Yogashram to meet Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati.

Chhattisgarh has now become the second state to declare imposing alcohol prohibition in the state.
