Social activist Medha Patkar on Sunday said that the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh should take a strong position and look into the 'unprecedented' number of deaths linked with the Vyapam scam.

"Many mysterious deaths are occurring. It is this scam which has happened on an unprecedented scale. And since all the major political forces are behind it, obviously the Madhya Pradesh Government needs to be blamed for all this that is happening following the scam. The judiciary, the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh is expected to take a very strong position without which whether it is sand mining which is also leading to killings in the state or whether it is the Vyapam scam, the state has no control. At least the judiciary must be able to control this," Patkar told the media here.

Akshay Singh, a journalist with the TV Today Group, died suddenly yesterday when he had gone to take an interview of the family of a slain Vyapam scam accused in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.

Reports say that Singh felt chest pain while he was taking the interview. He was taken to the Meghnagar hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Singh's post mortem report is still awaited.
