Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard, a performer of Cirque Du Soleil, a Quebec based entertainment company, died after plunging 50 feet during a performance in Las Vegas Saturday night.

According to People magazine, the incident happened at MGM Grand's 'Ka' performance.

The performance organization's spokesperson said in a statement that the entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death.

The rep insisted that Guyard's immediate family has been informed of the accident and their thoughts are with her family and the entire Cirque du Soleil family.

Guy Laliberte, the founder of the Cirque du Soleil, claimed in his own statement that he is heartbroken and wanted to extend his sincerest sympathies to the family.

Laliberte asserted that they were all completely devastated with the news.

He said that Sassoon was an artist with the original cast of Ka since 2006 and has been an integral part of their Cirque du Soleil tight family.

Laliberte added that they are reminded, with great humility and respect, how extraordinary their artists are each and every night and their focus now is to support each other as a family.

Sassoon's death is apparently the first reported death in the well-known acrobatic company's 30-year history.

An audience member later tweeted about the event, claiming that the "wire snapped" and the artist "fell fast and awkwardly at least 50 feet".
