'Combative' England lose Ali's wicket at lunch as India seeks Lord's win

England lost the their fifth wicket on the last ball before lunch, and are still 146 runs short of the 319-run target set by India for victory.

At the time of the filing of this report, England was 173 for the loss of five wickets. The last man to go was left-hander Moeen Ali, who was caught by short leg Cheteshwar Pujara off the bowling of Ishant Sharma. Before losing his wicket, Ali had stitched a 100-run partnership with Joe Root, who remained unbeaten at the break on 52.

The first session of play on the fifth day has yielded 68 runs for the loss of one wicket. Ishant Sharma has claimed his third wicket of the England innings.

At the start of play, both Root and Ali played themselves in, before indulging themselves with boundaries on either side of the wicket.

While Root scored four boundaries, three of them Ishant Sharma and one of Bhuvanesh Kumar, Ali struck three boundaries, including two cover drives and a square cut.

India is still in with a chance of achieving a victory at Lord's after 28 years, and England might end up with their 10th Test loss under the captaincy of Alastair Cook.
