Cong backs Malala, says no justice for democracy in Pak

Extending support to nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai on her statement condemning the murder of a university student over blasphemy allegations, the Congress Party on Sunday claimed there is 'no justice for democracy' in Pakistan owing to the enormous power enjoyed by the Army in the neighbouring country.

Former union minister and Congress leader Ashwani Kumar while justifying Malala's concern stated that it was raised purely due to the Pakistan Army's influence in making crucial decisions for the country.

"The Pakistani Army plays a very important role in taking decisions for the country. It controls every decision taken. This is why Malala has raised questions about certain elements responsible for projecting a bad image of the country. I think the Pakistani officials must listen to Malala's concerns," he told ANI.

On April 13, Abdul Wali Khan University students Mashal Khan and Abdullah were targeted by a violent mob in the campus premises. Mashal was killed, while Abdullah was injured for allegedly 'publishing blasphemous content online', according to the police.

Commenting on the same, the nobel laureate urged state institutions and political parties in Pakistan to shun silence, take a stand and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

According to the Express Tribune, Malala said in a video message on Facebook that some Pakistanis have forgotten the message of peace given by Islam.

"This was not just the funeral of Mashal Khan, it was the funeral of the message of our religion Islam," she said, adding this incident is filled with terror and fear.

With regard to those complaining about the presence of Islamophobia in the West, Malala clarified that it was not western nations, but the citizens themselves who were bringing a bad name to the country and the religion.
