Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit out at the Congress for comparing Narendra Modi's rallies with circus shows attracting equal crowd, and said that it is an insult to all the people who came for the rally in Kanpur, and who consider the saffron outfit as a replacement for the Congress-led UPA Government.

"The Congress spokesperson has said that people gather for circus also. It is an insult for all the people of Uttar Pradesh who gathered excitedly and considering Narendra Modi and BJP as a replacement for congress. The truth is Congress party has turned the nation into a circus by their bad governance. It is their disappointment and frustration," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said that the 'circus' remark speaks of the arrogant mindset of the Congress Party.

The Congress spokesperson rattled by the growing popularity of Narendra Modi is comparing the crowd that came to the rally as people seen in the circus. This speaks of the arrogant mindset and also shows the low level they can stoop to bring down the public discourse," he said.

"The Congress Party is not able to answer satisfactorily their failures and betrayal, lack of governance, policy paralysis, and they do not have an alternative leadership. That is why they are making this sort of cheap remarks," he added.

Naidu further questioned the Congress leaders about their opinion on people who come to attend their rallies.

"I would like to know from the Congress leaders what about the people who are coming to congress rallies? Are they coming to see the buffoonery of the Congress leaders?" he asked.

Commenting on BJP's prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi's Kanpur rally which saw a massive turnout, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary on Saturday had said that a large crowd gathers even when a circus is in town.

"Do not measure one's strength from one's obesity. Famous filmstar Raj Kumar had once said that a large crowd gathers and claps even when some circus comes to town," she said.

Earlier on Saturday, Modi addressed a rally in Kanpur, where he criticized the Congress-led UPA Government over various issues including foreign policy, corruption, inflation among others.
