Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday condemned the notice of Chhattisgarh police to martyr Special Police Officer (SPO) Kishore Pandey's family to pay back Rs. 10,000 given for his last rites and called for the state government's strongest and promptest actions.
"I think this is something unbelievable. The state government must take the strongest, promptest, swiftest actions," Singhvi told ANI.
"On one hand, the state is unable to give protection, maintain law and order, preserve the stability and on other almost astonishingly extreme those who have died, the police is asking for refund or reimbursement post death," he added.
The Chhattisgarh police has issued a notice to the family of SPO Kishore Pandey, who was martyred while fighting with Maoists in Gariaband district, to pay back Rs. 10,000 given for his last rites.
"In 2011, SPO Kishore Pandey was martyred. We payed Rs 10,000 for his last rite and have now issued a notice for its return," said Abhishek Pathak, Superintendent of Police.
According to reports, the money was used from the Police welfare fund.
