Condemning the allegedly staged act of cleanliness by Satish Upadhyay, the Congress party on Thursday demanded the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief's resignation.

"It is just an attempt to please Narendra Modi. Satish Upadhyay must resign from his post for doing such things," said Congress leader JP Aggarwal.

"The BJP leaders are cleaning up the city just for the sake of pictures. They are posting photos on social sites to please PM Modi," added another Congress leader Mukesh Sharma

Upadhyay, however, denied the allegations saying that he had no idea about the whole issue.

"I completely condemn this. The cleanliness drive is to be taken seriously and everyone should do it honestly. I don't know anything about it. I had just gone there as a participant," he said.

According to reports, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and former AAP member Shazia Ilmi attended an event hosted by the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) where garbage was specifically strewn in front of the center to be cleaned by them.
