Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday sought a clear mandate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and claimed that the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) would not get more than ten seats.

"The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party should know that they are not going to get more than ten seats in the elections. I have come here to request you, give clear majority to BJP in these elections," Prime Minister Modi said.

Talking about the increasing rate of farmer suicides in Maharashtra, the Prime Minister said that it was extremely crucial to provide them with basic facilities.

"More than 3700 farmers commit suicide in our Maharashtra every year; there couldn't be bigger pain than this. Do we need to save our farmers or not? Have our farmers ever demanded a bungalow or a car?" he said.

"They have never asked for more than just water. If our farmers get water, they can extract gold out of mother land, and our nation can be the 'Golden Bird' once again. I have also called upon the entire world for 'Make in India', so that our youth can get better employment opportunities," he added.

In the 2009 assembly polls in Maharashtra, the Congress-NCP alliance had won 144 seats, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance got 90 seats, while others won 54 seats.
