Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Saturday dubbed the police inquiry of party vice president Rahul Gandhi's hair and eye colour as an intrusion of his private space and sought a reply from the Union Home Ministry on this issue.

Expressing surprise over the police inquiry, Joshi said this was objectionable to the Congress Party because Rahul Gandhi is a special protectee for over 20 years.

"The Central Government has given him a special protection force. The Government of India has got all the information of his whereabouts. And, if they require this information after 25 years, then, I think it is an intrusion into his private space, which we think is wrong," said Joshi.

"And, we would like the Central Government and the Home Ministry to give their replies on this," she added.

According to reports, a team of the Delhi Police visited the Congress vice-president's office last week to make inquiry about his physical features.

The police have, however, so far not been unable to give any credible explanation for the inquiry.

The incident takes place at a time when the Congress vice-president is on a leave doing introspection for the party's dismal show in the Delhi Assembly polls. He is not even attending the crucial Budget Session of the Parliament that is underway.
