The Congress party on Monday said that it would play a 'constructive' role in the Budget Session of the Parliament.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi reiterated his party's commitment to be an active participant of the Budget Session. He however warned that the Centre should not take the support of the party for granted.
Singhvi further said that any provision which is not for the betterment of the farmers in the Land Acquisition Ordinance will be opposed by the Congress.
Earlier in the day, the Budget Session began after President Pranab Mukherjee's joint address to both Houses of the Parliament.
The Budget Session contains 44 items of financial, legislative and non-legislative business.
The first part of the Budget Session will continue till March 20 while the second part will commence after a month-long break from April 20 and conclude on May 8.
The Rail Budget will be presented on February 26, Economic Survey on February 27 and General Budget on February 28.
