The Congress Party has decided to boycott the breakfast party to be hosted by Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Nadu on Friday.
Naidu will host the breakfast party at 9.30 am for the appointment of his new deputy, Harivansh Singh, a lawmaker from the Janata Dal-United (JDU). However, the reason behind Congress' decision is not yet known.
Singh, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate was elected new Raj Sabha deputy chairman with 125 votes on Thursday, defeating Congress' Member of Parliament (MP) BK Hariprasad.
The election for Rajya Sabha deputy chairman was necessitated following the retirement of Congress leader PJ Kurien in June.
