Interim chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi has reportedly been termed as the 'caretaker chairman' of the board by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The court also ordered for the elections of a new chairman within 90 days in a 30 page detailed decision, along with the statement on Sethi.
According to the Express Tribune, as a caretaker chairman, any decision taken by Sethi will be null and void as the legalities of the caretaker position does not allow such action, and under the court decision, Sethi will monitor the day-to-day functions of the PCB till a new chairman is elected under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The report further said that the new PCB chairman must be a former cricketer and have a minimum education of a graduate degree, among other qualifications, adding that the court had ordered for the scrapping of articles 28, 29, 30 and 31 of the new PCB constitution, terming them as invalid.
According to the report, this development comes in the wake of Transparency International Pakistan's (TIP) terming Sethi's appointment as contrary to PCB's constitution, and amateur cricketer Abdullah Tahir petition against his appointment in the IHC.
Tahrir had argued in his petition that Sethi's appointment was made on a 'political basis', which was in violation of the PCB constitution, especially when the ICC has upgraded its standard to separate politics from cricket, following which, the constitution of the board was amended.
