The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday termed the use of Mahatma Gandhi's image by a United States beer manufacturing company as 'atrocious', adding that the American company should be more sensitive towards Indian sensibilities.
"An alcohol company using Mahatma Gandhi and his picture as a brand to promote their products it is atrocious. The American company should understand the sensibilities of India; and it should be more sensitive towards using Gandhi for their commodity promotions," CPI leader D Raja told ANI.
"Mahatma Gandhi stood and fought against alcohol and all along he campaigned against alcohol," he added.
D Raja's remarks came after the Connecticut-based New England Brewing Company had allegedly used Gandhi's image for its beer brand called 'Gandhi-Bot'.
According to reports, a petition was filed in Hyderabad over the issue, which has led to the brewery apologizing for the same.
