CPI urges for Saradha scam investigation without political interference

Seeking a comprehensive investigation into the multi-crore Saradha chit-fund scam case, the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday said that it was the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) call to decide as to whether it takes cognizance of the allegations leveled by Saradha scam accused Kunal Ghosh against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, adding that the bureau should investigate the case without any political interference.

"[The allegation] is evidence coming from Kunal Ghosh. It is for the investigative agency to take note of it. And how the law is going to take its course is for the law enforcing authorities and investigative agencies to decide," CPI leader D Raja told ANI.

"Whatever investigation is going on should be a comprehensive, credible one and nobody should go scot free. The law must take its course," he added.

Referring to the meeting between the West Bengal Left Front and Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day, the CPI leader said that the probe into this case should be without any political interference or any hindrance.

"The Left Front leaders from West Bengal met the Prime Minister and gave him the representation. Let us wait and see what he is going to do," Raja stated.

"The investigation must be allowed to proceed without any political interference or hindrance," he added.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, who was arrested earlier this month in connection with the scam, was sent to judicial custody till January 2, 2015. After being produced in Alipore Court on Monday, the West Bengal minister's bail plea was rejected.

Last Month, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose had also been arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam.
