The Australian media has claimed that if a cricket superpower like India refuses to employ DRS in Test matches, reasoning the technology is both non-exact and deleterious to the traditions and decorum of the game, the Ashes became too important to operate as a DRS proving ground.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, with the ICC in a clear DRS developmental phase, county cricket or Sheffield Shield should be the ideal environment to experiment the new system, which is similar to the one adopted by the ARL Commission.
The report said that the incorrect decisions involving Khawaja, Ashton Agar and Stuart Broad in the first three Tests showed that the implementation of the technology is imperfect.
Third umpire-review procedures for run-outs, line-ball catches and stumpings have been a relatively uncontroversial part of international cricket since the early 1990s, the report added.
