Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt, British boxer Nicola Adams and English diver Tom Daley all bagged a gold medal on the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow, as England ensured that they would finish top of the medal table.
England is 11 golds ahead of nearest challengers Australia, who can only win seven of the 11 left to be decided, and that means the English would be the most successful nation at a Commonwealth Games for the first time in 28 years.
It was a successful day for two of the home nations in the boxing ring, with Scotland, who passed the 50-medal mark overall, and Northern Ireland both securing double gold, The BBC reported.
Representatives of medal table-topping England and closest rivals Australia would meet on Sunday in the finals of both the mixed doubles and men's doubles in squash, one of just five sports with issues still outstanding.
Saturday's focus was on the track, the ring and the pool.
Bolt charged his relay team to gold as he ran like the wind to anchor Jamaica to gold in the 4x100 metre relay in the final on Saturday. The Jamaican sprinter was in second place when Nickel Ashmeade handed him the baton, but he raced clear of England's Danny Talbot to win his first Commonwealth medal.
Adams was awarded victory over Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh after a split decision, although the Belfast fighter was deeply unhappy with the decision, the report added.
