D. Raja condemns Pakistan ceasefire violation, says Nawaz Sharif should control his army

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Sunday condemned the repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and said that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must take note of these violations and control his army.

"This is totally unacceptable to us and it should be condemned in all possible strongest terms. Pakistan army is doing everything to provoke India. These are all very provocative actions on the part of the Pakistani army. Nawaz Sharif should take note of this and he must have control over his own army. He must come forward and denounce his army's action. If he is silent then it means that he is endorsing what his army is doing," he said.

Rajas further said that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should have a direct talk with the Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif and convey India's agitation towards continuous ceasefire violations by the Pakistan army.

He also said that India's foreign policy should be reworked but added that military confrontations or war has never been able to solve our problems.

"India's foreign policy needs to be reworked in a sense that India should act as a matured and a strong nation. I don't mean to say that we should think of any kind of military confrontation because we have had wars in the past and it could not bring any solution to our problems. And now both countries are nuclear weapon states, and it makes things more complicated and threatening to the peace and normalcy in the country," he added.

Earlier on August 6, five Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani Specialist Forces on August 6 along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District.

There have been three more ceasefire violations by Pakistan in less than a week.

Pakistan has now violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for the third time in 72-hours, the latest being in Mendhar Sector on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan targetted two posts of Border and Security Forces (BSF) in which one of its personnel was injured along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Kanachak sector.

Pakistan violated the cease-fire late Friday night and the troops opened fire on several points near on the Indian army's Durga post in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District around midnight, forcing the Indian side to retaliate.

Defence Minister A.K.Antony on August 8 made a fresh statement in the Lok Sabha where he accepted and acknowledged after being briefed by the Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh, that Specialist Forces of the Pakistan Army were involved in the ambushed attack on six Indian Army soldiers on Tuesday morning in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District, leading to the death of five of them.

"It is now clear that Specialist Forces of the Pakistan Army were involved in the attack.Those in Pakistan who are responsible for this tragedy, should not go unpunished. Our restraint should not be taken for granted," said Antony.
