Delhi HC adjourns two separate pleas challenging demonetization

The Delhi High Court on Thursday indefinitely adjourned hearing on two separate pleas challenging the government's demonetisation drive.

The High Court bench was hearing two separate pleas, one of which sought discontinuation of new Rs. 2,000 currency notes and the other sought a direction to the Centre to ensure that all ATMs are dispensing cash and people do not suffer.

Earlier on November 22, the High Court had said that it would await the Supreme Court's order as the larger question on the Centre's transfer petition is pending before the top court.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi had earlier filed a transfer petition before the apex court seeking a stay on all pending pleas against demonetisation.

The Supreme Court had, however, refused to stay the government's notification demonetising high-value currency notes but asked it to spell out the steps taken to minimise public inconvenience.
