Indian opener Murali Vijay and skipper Virat Kohli's solidarity with bat in the third and concluding Test match against Sri Lanka has taken India to 269 in the first innings, here at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground on Saturday.
Batting first at the green wicket, Vijay scored his second ton in successive innings while Kohli, who is in a rich form, hit his third hundred in a row.
Meanwhile, captain fantastic, who slammed the fifth double hundred of his career in the Nagpur Test, also became the fourth-fastest Indian to reach 5,000 runs in Tests.
Vijay's brilliant run with the bat continued as the classy opener hit his 11th century.
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first and in an undecided opening dilemma, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan stepped first for India.
Dhawan, who opted out of the second Test, citing personal reasons, started well and hit a couple of boundaries but could not last long on the crease.
It was Dilruwan Perera, who took his 100th for Sri Lanka with Dhawan's wicket.
Coming to play on number three, Cheteshwar Pujara was also suspended on a cheap 23.
At the time of reporting, India were 274 for 2, with Vijay along with Kohli on crease, batting at 120 and 104 respectively.
