People in Allahabad took a holy dip in river Ganges on Thursday to celebrate the festival 'Ganga Dussehra', which marks the descent of river Ganges on the earth.
In Varanasi, priests performed rituals on the banks of the river and chanted hymns as the devotees offered prayers and sought blessings.
"The divine occasion washes away ten types of sins. By offerings prayers and fruits on this day, our desires get fulfilled, we attain peace and fortune and prosperity enters into our families. Everyone
should take a dip on Ganga Dussehra," said a priest, Heera Nand Pandey.
"On this day, Bhagirath King brought river Ganges on earth. It is a very significant day. We chant the name of Ganga while taking a dip and make offerings," said a devotee, Sunita Seth.
