Digvijay Singh finds fault with BJP for making accusations against others

Taking potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for criticizing Congress President Sonia Gandhi's letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over suspension of UP IAS officer Durga Nagpal and questioning BJP's claim to be against the sand mafia, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday said that the BJP should look into their own self before making accusations.

"I am very shocked that Shahnawaz Hussain is saying that BJP is against the sand mafia. If that is the case then why don't they raise their voice against the illegal sand mining in Shivraj Singh Chauhan's constituency in Madhya Pradesh? Also one of the Gujarat Minister is involved in sand mafia and till date Narendra Modi hasn't dismissed him from his post and says he is honest," he told media here today.

"I just want to tell them that they should look into their own self before making accusation on anyone," he added.

Earlier on August 3, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi's letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urging him to intervene in the suspension of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Durga Shakti Nagpal has no significance as the ruling party and the Samajwadi Party (SP) worked in collaboration.

"The Samajwadi Party is in alliance with the Congress at the Centre. Sonia Gandhi's letter to Manmohan Singh does not have any significance because the Samajwadi Party and the Congress are working together. The Congress needs their support on the Food Security Bill, as well. The Central Government is using the letter to waste time," Hussain had said.

Another BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi on August 3 alleged that Congress president Sonia Gandhi writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over suspension of UP IAS officer Durga Nagpal was 'politically motivated'.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, commenting on the IAS officer's suspension earlier in the day said the rules will be followed.

"There are rules laid down and the rules will be followed. And we are in touch with the state government to find out the full details of the case," Dr. Singh told media here.

The Prime Minister's remark came hours after the Uttar Pradesh Government slapped a chargesheet accusing Nagpal of flouting norms and lacking administrative acumen.

According to reports, a copy of the chargesheet along with a report has been sent to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) at the Centre.

The Samajwadi Party government's 10-page chargesheet accuses Nagpal of violating norms while ordering the demolition of the wall of a mosque built illegally on government land at Gautam Budh Nagar in Greater Noida.

The chargesheet came a day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to the Prime, asking him to ensure that the suspended bureaucrat is treated fairly.

According to reports, Sonia Gandhi had told the Prime Minister in her letter that though the matter is between the Uttar Pradesh Government and the IAS officer, the Central Government should see how it can intervene in it.

Though the Uttar Pradesh Government has called it as an 'administrative decision', against her for demolishing a wall which was part of an intended mosque, but many believe that it was the result of pressure from the mining mafia.

Durga Nagpal was suspended last month ostensibly for taking on the sand mafia and for ordering the demolition of a wall of a mosque that was being built on government land in the state's Gautam Buddh Nagar District, where she was posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
