Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Wednesday slammed the coming together of former rivals Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, saying principles had been thrown in the bin for politics of convenience.

"PDP BJP alliance to form Govt in JandK ! Politics of Convenience! Principles thrown in the dust bin! Would Mohan Bhagwat ji say something?" Digvijay tweeted.

The BJP and the PDP had yesterday announced to form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that their union was formulated keeping peace of the state in mind.

BJP chief Amit Shah said PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a meeting in the next few days following which a formal announcement regarding the date of the government formation in the state shall be declared.

The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir last year threw up a hung verdict, with the PDP emerging as the single-largest party with 28 seats. The BJP won 25 seats, with the National Conference and Congress winning 15 and 12 seats respectively.
