It becomes quite cumbersome for pregnant women when festivals are around the corner,

Instead of letting pregnancy act as a spoilsport during festivals, here are a few tips to engage in fun and frolic.

According to Parents India, as all retail outlets are on sale during the festive months, the expecting moms can go on a shopping spree for their new arrival, while chucking the religious beliefs that forbids it.

Rajeev Punjabi, gynecologist at Hinduja Healthcare Surgical, Mumbai, said that it is important to keep a check on the diet in pregnancy, thus during festivities, the pregnant women can gorge on fruits and some amazingly nutritious sweets and homemade snacks while striking a balance on the calorie intake.

Making a healthy nutrition choice is necessary and the expecting mothers should eat walnuts, almonds, raisins, figs and khajur-based sweets made in jaggery instead of sugar as they are good for pregnancy.

If one enjoys cooking, then it is a good time to make the snacks one craves for and indulge in cooking to the heart's content.

Women should make sure that they are traveling smart, by keeping adequate snacks, fruits and water with them, as traffic snarls during festival can test one's patience and hunger.

Fasting is to be avoided for pregnant women, as it is not a healthy practice and the foetus needs sustained nutrition and starvation affects its growth.

It is important to avoid crowded places, as the crowd can be boisterous and unruly during festivals and one needs to protect themselves from any unnecessary harm.

Avoiding noisy events is necessary, because extremely high decibel of sound can be dangerous for one's pregnancy.

Excessive weight gain in pregnancy is a serious issue and leads to a lot of complications, thus one should avoid indulging in binge eating and balance their diet.
