DoNER to invest Rs. 33,000 crores in NE states for skill development

The Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry will invest Rs 33,000 crores for development of the north-eastern states during the present fiscal.

DoNER secretary Naveen Verma, who disclosed the information in this regard, stated that skill development for the youth of the north-eastern region is the ministry's highest priority.

"The ministry has given special emphasis on skill development of youth of north-eastern region and for which Rs 170 crores will be invested, the DoNER Minister has increased its budget by fivefold from Rs 11 crores... to Rs 55 crores in the present fiscal in skill development sector," he added.

Verma also said that in order to overcome the hurdle of loan problem for first generation entrepreneurs, the ministry is opening a new scheme under the banner of 'Venture Fund' and 'Start Up Centre' under North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited for those youth who have innovative business ideas.

Verma was in Tripura to know about the development of the ongoing projects under the DoNER Ministry in the state.

During his day-long visit, he visited the IL&FS institute of Skill at Bodhjunnagar industrial area and interacted with the students and faculty at the centre and took note of their problems.

The DoNER secretary also met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar besides officials of the planning department.
