Espionage case: Delhi Police rules out involvement of senior officials

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on Tuesday ruled out the involvement of senior level officials in the case regarding leaking of sensitive documents from various ministries, saying that those who sought the government documents relied mainly on lower level employees to get the job done.

"So far the investigation has revealed that those who sought government documents used to rely on the lower level employees on the ladder. They used to tell the employees to get any document they could get hold of from a particular official's office. As of now there is no involvement of any senior official in this case," said Bassi when asked if there are any senior level official involved in the case.

"As you all know that we had registered a case yesterday because it came to our notice that some documents from coal and power ministries were stolen and then sold to consultants. We have also arrested a person who used to make fake IDs," he added.

Delhi Police on Monday arrested Lokesh, an energy consultant, for allegedly leaking information from the Coal and Power Ministry and providing unauthorized documents to certain individuals for money. Lokesh has been sent to five-day police custody.

With Lokesh's arrest, the number of people arrested in this corporate espionage case has reached 13.

Last week, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi confirmed that several people had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the leaking of classified documents from the ministry.

The Police Commissioner informed that those arrested were temporary multi-tasking staff in Shastri Bhawan and had been indulging in such activities for some time, using fake identities to enter the building.

Two former journalists are among those arrested in this case.
