Ex-Cosmos star Pele still considers himself to be part of NY

Football legend Pele has said that he still considers himself a part of New York, although the Brazilian star might be seen cheering his native country in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Former Brazilian footballer said that the American football club, Cosmos, he became a part of New York and is still a part of New York.

Pele said that he has had an apartment on 54th and Second Avenue in New York since 1974 and he still lives there, adding that he goes to NY every summer, the New York Post reported.

The Soccer legend also said that his two daughters live in the city and he keeps a house in East Hampton, adding that there it is calmer, so he is half in Brazil and half in New York, which never allows him to see the winter.

The Brazilian star said that when he first moved to the city with the Cosmos, he used to have a soccer clinic in Central Park, but he cannot do that now because so many people approach him, although he added that he is very blessed for that.

The former Cosmos star also said that he had been asked by Joe Namath once if he ever felt like kicking field goals in the NFL, to which the legend replied that he cannot score any goals with a helmet on.

Pele is the official ambassador for Swiss watchmaker Hublot, who are the 'Official Timekeeper of the 2014 FIFA World CUP, and said that it is a very big responsibility for Brazil to host the World Cup and everyone wants their team to win.

Pele, who still remains the Cosmos' honorary president, said that he is welcoming the plan to start the New York City Football Club, which will play in its inaugural MLS season at Yankee Stadium next year, the report added.
