Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has backed Louis Van Gaal, saying that his side need to put faith on their manager and urged them to move on from Sir Alex Ferguson's era.

Van Gaal's job came under scrutiny following his side 1-2 defeat at home against Norwich City in the Premier League.

The 39-year-old believes that sacking a manager would not be an appropriate solution for the club, goal.com reported.

Nevill said that there was no lack of talent in the team, adding that he hopes United's performance would get better with time.

Describing Van Gaal as an experienced manager, the former midfielder called on his side to look for stability within the club.

United have gone six games without a win and are currently nine points behind the surprise leaders Leicester City in league standings.

With the first defeat at home, United have also slipped out of the top four ahead of their next match against Stoke City on December 26.
