Former England footballer Stan Collymore has reportedly accused Twitter of not doing enough to fight against abusive messages after he was targeted by internet trolls on the social networking site.

The broadcaster, who used to play in Liverpool, claimed that he has been threatened with murder and received many homophobic, racist hate messages since he suggested Liverpool striker Luis Suarez dived to earn a penalty in Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

According to the BBC, although he thanked the police for investigating his claims, Collymore however, accused Twitter of 'not doing enough to combat racist/homophobic/sexist hate messages, all of which are illegal in the UK'.

However, a Twitter spokesman said that it has taken action against targeted abuse that was reported to it, even though it did not comment on individual users, adding that the company has 'established processes in place for working with law enforcement'.

British TV host Piers Morgan was also subjected to abusive tweets after he called for the police and Twitter to take action over the offensive tweets aimed at Collymore, the report added.
