Former Pakistani captain Aamir Sohail has reportedly been appointed as the chief selector of the national team and given the task of developing the game in the country.
Pakistan has not had a chief selector since a court last month suspended all decisions taken by interim cricket board chief Najam Sethi, whose tenure began in July 2013, with Sethi appointing former captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan as chief selector.
According to Sport24, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said the Sohail would act as the head of a four-man selection panel besides being the director of game development, which encompasses everything from grassroots to first-class cricket.
The report mentioned that Sohail's appointment is the first major decision by Mohammad Zaka Ashraf who was reinstated as PCB chairperson in January, eight months after being suspended by the court over dubious elections.
Stating that he will do his best to lift the game, Sohail, who was a major part of the World Cup winning team in 1992, said that Pakistan is doing well in ODIs and Twenty20s and he would try to lift their showings in the Test matches as well.
The report also said that Aamir's first task would be to select the national squad for the Asia Cup to be held in Bangladesh from February 25 - March 8, adding that it would be Aamir's second tenure as chief selector, having held the post in 2003.
