Facebook chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and discussed the innovative use of Facebook as a platform to engage with a large audience in the service of humanity.
Prime Minister Modi informed Zuckerberg that he had used social media during various campaigns during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat to great success and appealed to him to promote India's rich tourism potential through Facebook.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister pointed that a lot of terrorist elements are using social media platforms to recruit members to join them and termed such misuse of social media as unfortunate. He further urged Zuckerberg to think of the role social media can play to stop terror.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Zuckerberg about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Zuckerberg told Prime Minister Modi that Facebook wants to work with the India in the fields of healthcare and education, providing a range of services to the people. He also added that Facebook will help in the creation of the Clean India Mobile App and that it would be launched soon.
Prime Minister Modi and Zuckerberg also talked about the Digital India initiative, where the Prime Minister asked him to identify some domains of Digital India where Facebook can get involved and help.
Zuckerberg, 30, is in India on a two-day visit. On Thursday, the young billionaire had said that he is looking forward to work on the Prime Minister's Digital India initiative at the Internet.org Summit.
