Facebook has introduced a standalone app called Riff that has been designed as an evolving mix of clips that revolve around a topic which works like a Facebook chat thread where users can make additions and make it go viral.
According to the Verge, when users create a Riff video for the first time, they can tag a friend and make it trend.
The app is available on both iOS and Android mobile devices. It originated after last year's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge when people began posting videos of them upturning buckets of ice water on their heads in the name of charity.
Josh Miller, the product manager of Facebook's Creative Labs said that the aim is to make these videos grow as big as possible to get as many views and as many clips.
Snapchat has a similar feature "Our Stories" that looks like an inspiration for Riff with its crowd sourced collection of photos and videos tied to popular events around the world.
