Favourable climatic conditions and appropriate breeding operations have accelerated the production of trout in Srinagar.

The breeding period of trout started in October-November last year at the Dachigam Fish Farm and proper breeding operations and weather led to better produce this year.

"This time, the breeding of fish was good due to weather. The weather was cold for a longer duration which was beneficial for breeding," said employee at Dachigam fish farm, Mohamad Sadiq.

Breeding is known to be the most important part of the trout production as even a small mistake can affect the production.

During breeding, eggs of fish are kept in their monitoring cells.

The duration of breeding is four to five months and suitable time for breeding starts from November and concludes in March.

Breeding of trout also ensures boom in its export by the state fisheries department as the valley specialises in the production of trout.

"This year production was huge. We are expecting huge turnout for fisheries department by selling these fish," said supervisor at Dachigam fish farm, Gulam Ahmad.
