Striker Fernando Torres was rushed to the hospital after suffering a head injury during Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw against Deportivo La Coruna in their La Liga clash at the Riazor in Spain on Friday.
The incident took place in the 84th minute of the match when the 33-year-old collided with Depor substitute Alex Bergantinos while jumping for the ball.
Torres crashed heavily to the turf, with his head slamming into the ground upon landing before players and medical staff rushed to his aide, the Guardian reported.
After being attended for at least five minutes, Torres was subsequently taken off the pitch on a stretcher and then transported to a hospital in A Coruna.
Reflecting on his injury, Atletico said, "Torres suffered a head trauma. He was taken to hospital for tests. He will spend the night under observation."
Deportivo put themselves ahead in the 13th minute of the match when Florin Andone pulled back a goal for his side before Antoine Griezmann equalised the score with a spectacular 68th-minute strike.
Atletico, who are standing fourth in the La Liga table, will next lock horns with Valencia on Sunday.
