England cricketer Stuart Broad's father has revealed that the player learned to play his cricket like an Australian, while playing for Hoppers Crossing in Victoria as a teenager.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Chris Broad, a match referee for the ICC and a former England opener, revealed that his son had come to a men's game in Australia and he faced abuse after it was known that he was the son of an England cricketer.

The report said that Broad sparked controversy at Trent Bridge when he refused to walk after nicking a ball to first slip and on the next day, triumphantly waved his bat around the ground when he finally walked off, dismissed for what could be a match-saving 65.

Chris Broad himself had refused to walk during an England Test against Pakistan in Lahore in 1987, despite being given out caught behind by umpire Shakeel Khan.
