Football fans have slammed star Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's new 300,000 pound-a-week new contract, describing it as "madness".

The Old Trafford star is now expected to cement his place as the highest paid player in the English Premier League if he agrees to the 70.2 million pound five-year deal, reports the Daily Star.

Fans, however, took to Twitter to vent their fury over Rooney's new contract and poked fun at him.

Some questioned the need for giving Rooney 300,000 pounds a week.
