Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia's motorcade was attacked in Feni on Saturday when she was en route to visit Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.
The motorcade, which is heading to Chittagong for the BNP chief's planned relief distribution for the Rohingya, was attacked in Mohammed Ali Bazar at the border of Feni and Comilla, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
The Dhaka Tribune quoted BNP Press Wing official Shamsuddin Didar, who was in the motorcade, as saying that the attack took place after Khaleda Zia's and the first few cars had crossed the spot.
Several press vehicles were vandalised and many journalists were also beaten up by the assailants.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi informed that the attackers were young men and some were carrying firearms.
Khaleda Zia will go to Cox's Bazar on Sunday to provide assistance to Rohingya refugees who fled violence in Myanmar.
