Four climbers injured as 6.0-magnitude quake jolts Malaysia's Mt. Kinabalu

At least four climbers were injured after a powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale struck Malaysia's Mount Kinabalu in Borneo.

The four climbers suffered broken bones and head wounds, as the temblor loosened stones and boulders on the mountain. There were a total of 145 climbers on the mountain at the time of the earthquake. Roads and buildings in the region had also cracked up, reports ABC News.

The U.S. Geological Survey located the epicentre of the quake about 54 kilometres from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Masidi Manjun, Sabah's minister for tourism, culture and environment, said on Twitter that rescue operations were underway.

No major damages or injuries were reported from the earthquake elsewhere in Sabah.
