France becomes first team to benefit from goalline technology at WC during Honduras win

France thrashed 10-man Honduras 3-0 in their tournament opener with striker Karim Benzema scoring twice as manager Didier Deschamps side reportedly became the first team to benefit from gaolline technology at a World Cup.

The goalline moment occurred in the 48th minute for France's second goal, when it ruled keeper Noel Valladares nudged Benzema's shot over the line.

According to the BBC, Benzema provided France with the lead from the spot after Wilson Palacios fouled Paul Pogba, and then the Real Madrid forward went on to add a late third with a vicious strike from a tight angle.

Even the GoalControl tool was reportedly called into action during the match and the historic moment would help the match to be remembered in the future.

The referee reportedly awarded the goal straight away as Benzema's sidefoot effort came off the far post, rolled across the line, bounced off Valladares and appeared to fully cross the line before the keeper could claw the ball back into play.

Initially the system caused confusion inside the Porto Alegre Stadium as it displayed the message 'No Goal' on the big screen, but a second judgement then came on whether the ball crossed the line after coming off the Honduras keeper resulting in a goal.
