A fresh flood alert has been sounded in parts of Sonitpur, Darrang, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia Districts of Assam for the next 24 to 48 hours.
Reports said that around 700 villages have been submerged in 10 districts.
Official sources said that 2, 32, 000 people have been marooned so far and 1, 33, 000 of them are reeling in worst hit Dhemaji District.
Several rivers including the Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger level.
Flood water damaged roads, embankments and bridges have made communication very difficult.
