The Director of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Prashant Pathrabe, on Friday said action would be taken against students 'overstaying' in the hostel.

The decision comes in the wake of Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

"On August 5, we issued notices to about 30 students who have been overstaying in the hostels despite the completion of their courses. We have decided to take action against them and they may be asked to vacate," Pathrabe told media in Pune.

Rathore in his reply had said that a 2008 batch was still pursuing a three-year course at the institute. The institute has also not held its convocation since 1997.

"We have found that the 2008 batch of students have still not completed their projects. These projects are at various levels of incompletion. The faculty will assess the level at which the project is complete and take action accordingly," he added.

Gajendra Chauhan has been refusing to comment against those opposing his appointment as the institute's chairman. The administration, however, feels his visit would help in diffusing the severe tension and end the impasse.
