Union Minister Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday warned of a criminal defamation case against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi if the latter continues to insult External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

"Sushma ji has not done anything wrong. She has not done anything against Constitution or against the law. Congress is upset and frustrated because of election loss, that is why they are making these baseless accusations and misleading people," Gadkari told media persons.

"Rahul Gandhi has insulted Foreign Minister of the nation which amounts to insulting the nation. He should apologise for this...If he continues doing such things then a criminal defamation case has to be filed against him," he added.

The Congress vice-president has been attacking the government for its adamant stand and not asking the tainted ministers to resign.

Rahul has also taken on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he should understand that he does not represent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but the nation.
