'Eragon' star Garrett Hedlund turned down the offer to play the lead role in the film adaption of E.L. James' erotic novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey', it has been revealed.

A source told Us magazine that doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment for the American actor, who is currently dating actress Kristen Dunst.

The insider asserted that the producers of the flick wouldn't let Hedlund do just one film.

'Vampire Diaries' star Ian Somerhalder also lost out on the role, despite campaigning for the role and declaring that he would absolutely love to play the lead, Christian Grey, in the film version of the book.
