Famed Pakistani ghazal singer Ustad Ghulam Ali captivated the audience with his performance in the historic Sankat Mochan temple of Varanasi.
The 'Sangeet Samaroh', which is an annual event organised at the temple, features an array of classical and semi-classical musicians.
Ali's style of performance and use of Urdu language is a unique blend of Indian classical music and ghazals.
"By learning Urdu one actually learns culture and also gets a command on musical notes. Even though some things in music are a gift from God, but learning polishes one's skills," said Ali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who represents Varanasi constituency in Parliament, expressed disappointment for not being able to attend the event owing to his busy schedule.
"I do wish I get the opportunity to attend such a programme in the future where so many well known artistes will be enchanting the audience
"Also read in the papers that Ghulam Ali Sahab wished that I attend the programme. Unfortunately, this time I would not be able to do so," he posted on the micro-blogging site twitter.
The 'Sangeet Samaroh' at Sankat Mochan Temple, which will go on from April 8-12 will truly be a treat for music lovers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in another tweet.
More than 50 artistes including Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, his sons Amaan and Ayaan, Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj, flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, Odissi dancer Sonal Mansingh and tabla player Hasmat Ali Khan will also be participating in the fest.
