Girl suffers acid attack in Bhopal, accused kills self

In a sensational incident in Bhopal, a girl suffered acid attack on Friday while the accused killed himself immediately after committing the crime.

The accused, identified as 47-year-old Sanjay Patil stabbed himself with a knife on the incident spot after the victim was rushed to trauma centre, the police said.

The victim has suffered 50 -55 percent burn injuries.

The incident took place near a local police station.

The victim said that she knew the accused for the past five to six years and lately he had started irritating her.

"He blocked my way when I was going to the nearby grocery store. He came and stopped me by pulling my hair when I didn't stop. I started screaming for help. He said don't create drama and leave. He was holding my scooter. Somehow, I freed myself and went to Ashok Garden Police Station. He followed me. The police officials said they won't take the complaint and I will have to go to Bijori Police Station to lodge a complaint. When I was going to the other police station, he caught me again and poured acid on me," said the victim.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother Minu said that the incident wouldn't have happened had police initiated action.

"He used to irritate us regularly and used abusive language for my daughter. Locals hate him. He ruined our social life. We informed the police about it, but police didn't take our compliant. They didn't help us," she said.

Superintendent of Police, Arvind Saxena, said that the investigation was on as it was not clear what caused a dispute between Patil and the victim.

"Sanjay Patil used abusive language on her and beat her by pulling her hair before pouring acid on her face and body. The accused became puzzled after committing the crime. After this, reports came that Sanjay Patil stabbed himself to death," said Saxena.
