'Godzilla' director Gareth Edwards will be helming the first of a series of annual standalone 'Star Wars' movies.
According to CNET, LucasFilm and Disney declared on StarWars.com that the untitled film will be scripted by 'The Book of Eli's' Gary Whittas and is expected to hit the theaters in late 2016.
The film, whose characters are meant to stand apart from the upcoming trilogy of 'Star Wars', would be filling the gap between 2015's 'Episode VII' and 'Episode VIII', which is anticipated to come out at least a couple of years later.
