Govt. formation in Delhi: AAP, Congress fire salvos at BJP

The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have condemned the reported move by Lt. Gov. Najeeb Jung's office to invite the BJP to form the next government in Delhi, as it is the single largest party in the state assembly. Both said that the BJP must agree to hold fresh elections if it has any confidence.

"If they (BJP) have even a little shame they should hold fresh elections in Delhi. If BJP had even an ounce of confidence they would have held fresh elections in the last five months," Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal told media persons here.

"People in Delhi are troubled by electricity and water problems and we had eased that, that's why the BJP is scared," added Kejriwal.

According to reports, President Pranab Mukherjee has given his nod to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to invite the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi to form the government in Delhi.

This has led to a fresh war of words between the BJP and opposition leaders in Delhi. While Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay chose to skirt the issue, senior party leader Venkaiah Naidu said that the BJP was prepared for polls and won't resort to horse-trading.

"We are prepared for polls in Delhi; there is no question of forming the government with horse-trading. Why will BJP be afraid of polls? We have a very good chance of winning in Delhi with full majority," said Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely said that if the BJP is allowed to form the government, it will be a mockery of democracy as it doesn't have the required numbers.

"When BJP doesn't have the numbers, them saying that they will form government is a mockery of democracy," said Lovely.

He also added that the AAP was talking about elections out of compulsion, because they were aware that the Congress would not support them now.
