Vice president Hamid Ansari on Monday described the Government's resolution towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' as commendable, saying that the 'essential pre-requisite for this is an affirmative action to ensure that everyone moves forward together.'

Delivering his inaugural address at the "Golden Jubilee Session of All India Muslim Majlis-e- Mushawarat", Ansari said "Muslims were an integral part of the freedom struggle against the British rule. They are dispersed all over the country, are not homogenous in linguistic and socio-economic terms and reflect in good measure the diversities that characterise the people of India as a whole".

"Mushawarat was formed in response to a perceived need to defend and protect the identity and dignity of the Muslim community in India in terms of the rights bestowed by the Constitution of India on the citizens of this land. This objective remains relevant though some of its ingredients may stand amplified or modified," Ansari added.

Ansari further said that it was a privilege to be invited to address the 50th anniversary session of the All India Majlis-e-Mushawarat, as it was formed in response to a perceived need to defend and protect the identity and dignity of the Muslim community in India in terms of the rights bestowed by the Constitution of India on the citizens of this land.
